Giuliani Group Retained by TransCanada Corporation and Shell US Gas & Power
November 10, 2004 - New York, NY. Giuliani Group LLC has been retained by TransCanada Corporation (TransCanada) and Shell US Gas & Power Company (Shell) to provide security and strategic consulting services for their Broadwater project, a proposed offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility on Long Island Sound.
TransCanada and Shell have initiated public and regulatory review of the proposed LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in New York State waters in Long Island Sound. The FSRU will be located 9 miles offshore of Long Island and will receive overseas deliveries of LNG to supply New York and Connecticut with a substantial new source of natural gas.
Commenting on the engagement, Rudolph W. Giuliani said, "We have been retained to provide advice with regard to the security for Broadwater's proposed LNG facility. Additionally, we will make recommendations on the measures necessary to achieve state of the art security. This facility will provide an important additional energy supply to the region, with an emphasis on security.”
Giuliani Group, assisted by SeaSecure, has completed a preliminary project security assessment, which indicates that the proposed facility can be operated safely and securely. Giuliani Group will continue to provide security consulting services on an ongoing basis to help enhance the security of the planned facility.
The Giuliani Group team has substantial credentials in security, safety, and emergency planning. The team will include Chairman & CEO and former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and senior executives from Giuliani Group with extensive public safety backgrounds and experience. These executives include New York City’s former Police Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik, former Commissioner of the Office of Emergency Management Richard Sheirer, and former Fire Commissioner Thomas Von Essen.
