Partners and Sabre Technical Services Form New Venture
–– Bio·ONE™
BIO·ONE™
WILL REMEDIATE THE FIRST ANTHRAX-CONTAMINATED BUILDING
January 13, 2004
- Boca Raton, FL. Flanked by Rudolph W. Giuliani,
Chairman and CEO of Giuliani Partners LLC, and John
Y. Mason, President and CEO of Sabre Technical Services
LLC, David Rustine, President of Crown Companies and
the new owner of the American Media Inc. (AMI) building
announced today that Bio·ONE™ has been
selected to decontaminate and remediate the building
–– site of the first recognized anthrax
incident in 2001.
“"Bio·ONE has unique chlorine
dioxide-based technology and experience cleaning-up
anthrax-contaminated buildings with no residual toxicity.
This made them the clear choice,"” said
Rustine.
Sabre Technical Services, a leader in biological
and chemical remediation technology and services,
has teamed with Giuliani Partners, a management consulting
firm with extensive experience in security, emergency
preparedness and response, as well as crisis management,
to create Bio·ONE Solutions LLC. Bio·ONE
is a joint venture that will work to enhance the current
technology and to expand the uses of chlorine dioxide
as a tool for dealing with biological and chemical
incidents, as well as develop new beneficial public
and commercial applications. The new joint venture
will be headquartered in the remediated AMI building.
“"Sabre's proprietary and patented chlorine
dioxide generators and application processes provide
a safe and highly effective decontamination system,"”
said Giuliani. “"This same process was
safely used to clean up the Capitol Hill complex,
including the Senate Hart Office Building as well
as the postal facilities in Washington and New Jersey.
As a result, thousands of people have been able to
return to work in anthrax-free environments. Not only
do John Mason and his team at Sabre Technical Services
bring unique technical expertise, but they have also
demonstrated integrity and a commitment to quality
and getting the job done,"” he added.
Sabre President and CEO John Y. Mason said, "This
joint venture is a marriage of innovative technology,
unique expertise and business sophistication. Sabre
believes that the depth of experience Giuliani Partners
brings to this venture will augment and accelerate
the ability of Bio·ONE to bring to the market
beneficial applications. Remediation of the AMI building
represents Bio·ONE's first joint project and
we will work closely with the local, state and federal
regulatory agencies to develop and implement the remediation
plan just like we have on previous projects."
The American Media Inc. building was the first building
where anthrax was discovered in October of 2001. This
contamination resulted in the death of the National
Enquirer's photo editor, Robert Stevens. The building
has remained under quarantine since. Rustine purchased
the three-story, 67,500-square-foot building in April
2003 with the goal of restoring it as a safe workspace.
About the Technology
Sabre's proprietary and patented implementation of
gas-phase chlorine dioxide fumigation technology provides
safe and effective decontamination with minimal disruption,
negligible corrosion, and no residual toxicity.
Sabre's high-capacity mobile generators can produce
chlorine dioxide gas, solution or foam. Gas-phase
chlorine dioxide fumigation is Sabre's primary decontamination
method for biological contamination and has proven
effective in the remediation of anthrax.
Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a gas at room temperature
and as such is very mobile, easily reaching spores
in hard-to-reach places and throughout the building.
Also, because of chlorine dioxide's unique physical
and chemical properties, it retains its structure
and properties in all phases, maintaining its ability
to kill spores. Chlorine dioxide has been proven to
be an effective HVAC fumigant.
Gas-phase chlorine dioxide used in remedial fumigation
is a microbiocide and at proper use concentrations
is not flammable or explosive. Chlorine dioxide decays
in the fumigation zone to simple salt at concentration
levels that are indistinguishable from background
levels. As such, there is no residual toxicity or
downstream toxicity issues.
